It was past midnight when the phone rang. Carmen rushed to pick it up for fear that there was an emergency. Thankfully, there was no emergency at all. It was Pauline actually who called, as she was wondering if it was possible for her sister to pick her up at the airport. Pauline is based in China and her visit home is actually a surprise for their mom. Carmen got so excited, too. She was hoping to catch up with her sister whom she has not seen in three years. Carmen hurriedly got dressed and drove as fast as she could to the airport. As soon as she got there, she noticed that Pauline was with someone. It was a guy and by the looks of it, it wasn't just any guy - he was special to her. When Pauline saw her, she ran to her and gave her sister a bug hug. And then she called for Mark and introduced her to Carmen. Mark, as Carmen learned later is a profiled steel roofer in China. Pauline proudly refer to him as her fiance. |

Being a mom is one of the best things that happened in my life. Though it can be fun at times, it also has its downside. I love my kids so much that I make sure that I can provide them with everything I need. As young as they are, there are some things which they could not understand. My kids can get a little rowdy at times that they often leave so much mess everywhere. I can often take seeing a messy house and fix it when needed. But there is one thing which I have little patience for. Whenever I see the bathroom, it seems like a storm has passed by it. They really forget to fix it after they use it in the morning. It often adds to my daily chores and I finish everything later than scheduled.
I realized that no matter how much I explain this to them, they will never understand it unless I put a bathroom storage unit there. This worked for me as they were able to learn the importance of placing things where they belong. Now, I don’t have to stress myself out just to clean my bathroom anymore! |

For the longest time, I have been looking for a way to change how our house looks like. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough money to go for a complete re-haul or for a complete house makeover. I almost gave up on the idea when I stumbled upon something on the internet that changed my plans entirely.
While randomly surfing the internet, I came upon a website that focused on window screens and how it can change the over-all look and appeal of your house instantly. At first I was a bit skeptical and just thought that the website was just looking for someone to buy their items. The linen closet is probably the most neglected storage space in the house. We only get to open it a few times a year, but it doesn’t mean that we should no longer make sure that it is orderly. Here are simple tips on organizing your closet meant for linens:
• Check your closet at least once a year to see whether there are items that are already worn out or no longer needed so that you can discard it, thereby creating more room for other important things
• If you are keeping large blankets for winter on this closet, pull it out, vacuum seal it and store in the attic to create more closet space
• Make sure that only usable towels are in the closet utility towels or those that can already be used as rugs should be taken out and stored in the garage or shed instead
• Ensure that every item in the closet is still being used in your home, if not, it is better to get rid of it by giving it away, so that it wouldn’t take up precious room. |

Cider making is a wonderful way of keeping an old and valuable tradition alive and also a great way of providing yourself with free drink all year! I have an orchard in northern France with a good mix of cider apple varieties.
Ours is an ancient orchard, with the trees well over 80 years old, and planted by the grandparents of the previous owner. These old trees only really produce a good crop every second year now.... but when they crop we get an absolute bumper quantity of apples.
We collect our apples usually in November and then put them through an apple crusher, before producing the cider with an old cider press.
These traditional cider presses come in various shapes and sizes, and even though many are extremely old, they work as well today as when they were first built. This is a great tradition in northern France, particularly in the Normandy and Brittany regions.
Of course, further south in France, wine making is the celebrated heritage, but in the north of France cider is still regularly produced and happily served in farmhouse kitchens throughout the region. |

Everyone complains about hot summer days. They sit around in their air condissioned houses or in front of their fans with the shades drawn and do nothing, but they don't realize all the fun they're missing out on. They could be out having a blast and enjoying the bright sunshine. Get yourself some gingham fabric, some sandwiches, and have yourself a picnic. After all, the sun is good for you in moderation. They should be rubbing on the sun block and getting out there. There's nothing like plunging into the cool water of a lake or pool and splashing around. It seems like your body just melts into the coolness when it's really hot outside, and it feels wonderful. Swimming is also great exercise while sitting inside your house is not. There are also parks full of grass to be enjoyed. Why would you want to be cooped up inside when you could be on a swing with the breeze blowing past you? Sitting on your couch can't compare to that. You could also go to the ice cream parlor and get yourself a nice cool ice cream or slushy drink and sit outside enjoying it. I'm pretty sure that would taste better than anything in your freezer at home. Basically, staying inside offers nothing compared to what you can find if you just brave the heat and join in all the fun. You'll be surprised and delighted if you do. |

As I work for a roofing company, I tend to enjoy the more temperate times of the year - spring and early autumn come to mind. Winter is freezing up there on the roof, and can be very windy too. It doesn't take long for my hands to become numb and sometimes I have to stop work altogether. But summer isn't so bad - yes it's obviously hot in the middle of the day, but we work earlier in the morning when it's cooler and we can often complete jobs by around 11AM - beating the sun's hottest rays of the day. From that point on, we can work on indoor jobs, where we can use air conditioning or fans to keep us cool. So really, out of the whole year, it's only the 3 months of winter that I really dislike - the other 9 months are OK for me as a roofer. |

When babies are born, there are a lot of things the mother is advised to have in place in order to ensure that the child is going to be very comfortable. You will notice that there is always that chair that the mother sits on when nursing her baby and when she raises the child so that it can burp, then some of it usually goes to that chair and created a stain. What you have to do is just to put it on the chair so that dirt and stains can not take over and make your furniture look bad. We tend to be complacent when the water is always available when we need it but we tend to freak out when the water is gone and there is a need to spend big amount of money.
Pipes freezing are a major piping problem. When it happens and the pipes start to leak, it will not only soak the whole area but leaving you waterless worst, it will make you spend. Pipes freezing usually happen during cold temperature or winter time. The still water inside the pipe will be frozen when the frozen water inside pipe will start melting it will expand thus making the pipes burst. |
